Abstract

The study investigated adherence to COVID-19 vaccination and the role of reflective
thinking, age and location among students of Peaceland College of Education, Enugu.
Two hundred and twelve (212) students with age ranging from 17 to 31 years, mean age
of 21.20 years and SD of 3.03 were recruited in the study. Gender of respondents
indicates that males were 97 (45.8%) while females were 115 (54.2%). In order to assess
the study variables in the cross-sectional survey and test the research hypotheses, two
(2) measures were employed: The Perception of COVID-19 Vaccines Acceptance Scale
and Reflective Thinking Scale (RTS). The data was analysed using independent t-test and
showed that students with high levels of reflective thinking adhered to COVID-19 vaccine
acceptance than students with low levels of reflective thinking; the second hypothesis
also showed that younger students will adhere to COVID-19 vaccination than older
students was not accepted; while the third hypothesis showed that students living offcampus
will adhere to COVID-19 vaccination than students who reside in the school
hostel was confirmed. Based on the findings, implications of this study is that reflective
thinking, age and location are keys to unlocking the drive for COVID-19 vaccine
acceptance among students while the study recommends that increasing the levels of
trust, reducing the physical and psychological constraints and collective responsibility
can be valuable to tackle the problem of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy.
