ROLES OF ICT IN THE REFERENCES SERVICES IN ACADEMIC LIBRARY USERS IN ENUGU NORTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA

Abstract
The study sought to examine the Roles of ICT in the References Services in Academic Library Users in Enugu North Local Government Area. The study made use of descriptive survey research design. The population of the study was 678 library students. Simple random sampling technique was used to select a sample of 300 respondents used for the study. The instrument used for data collection was a 4-point likert scaling questionnaire, which contains 23 items while the statistical tools used for analysis, was frequency and mean scores. The research instrument was validated by two lecturers from the Department of library and information science and one expert in Measurement and Evaluation. The reliability of the instrument was established using test re-test method. Spearman rank order coefficient was used to get correlation coefficient of 0.67 which shows that the instrument was reliable. For the method of data collection, the instrument was administered directly to the respondents by the researcher with the help of two trained research assistants. All the 300 questionnaires administered were retrieved which means 100% retrieval. Based on the finding of the study, the following recommendations were providing among others: Academic libraries should adopt the use of ICT tools at its reference section. This is because; it has been demonstrated to be effective and efficient in facilitating reference services at the reference desk of academic libraries, more electronic resources and ICT equipment should be provided.
