THE IMPACT OF FLEXIBILITY OF DUTY ROSTER ON JOB SATISFACTION AMONG PROFESSIONAL HEALTH WORKER IN ENUGU METROPOLIS, NIGERIA

Abstract

The study was designed to assess the effects of occupational stress and work shift on job
satisfaction among health workers in Enugu metropolis. Two robust standardised
questionnaire instruments: The Workplace Stress Scale (WSS) and Job Satisfaction
Survey (JSS) were deployed in a cross-sectional survey that utilised stratified random
sampling technique to recruit two hundred and sixty-five (265) health workers in Enugu
metropolis. Generated data were analysed using Two-Way ANOVA and expected
findings indicated that occupational stress influenced job satisfaction of health workers;
whereas work shift significantly impacted job satisfaction among health workers.
Similarly, significant interaction exists between predictor variables on job satisfaction.
In line with the findings, conclusions, recommendations and policy implications were
discussed.
